Access Control Anywhere, Anytime with ICT & Telaeris
Beyond the Fixed Reader
Traditional access control assumes people pass through doors equipped with card readers. But what about construction sites, outdoor events, remote facilities, or temporary checkpoints? These environments need the same level of identity verification without the infrastructure of a permanent installation.
The integration between ICT’s Protege platform and Telaeris’ XPressEntry handheld solution extends access control to anywhere your workforce operates.
What Is XPressEntry?
Telaeris XPressEntry is a handheld access control and identity verification solution. Running on rugged mobile devices, it allows security personnel to verify credentials, manage mustering, and control access at locations where installing a traditional reader is impractical or impossible.
XPressEntry supports card, mobile credential, and biometric verification — giving operators the flexibility to choose the authentication method that best fits their environment.
How the Integration Works
When integrated with Protege GX, XPressEntry handheld devices synchronize directly with your access control database:
- Real-time credential verification — security officers scan a badge or credential on the handheld device and instantly confirm whether the person is authorized for that location
- Access group enforcement — the same access rules configured in Protege GX apply to handheld checkpoints, ensuring consistent policy enforcement
- Occupancy tracking — handheld entry and exit scans feed back into Protege GX, maintaining accurate occupancy counts for emergency mustering
- Offline capability — if network connectivity is lost, XPressEntry devices continue to operate using cached credential data and synchronize when connectivity is restored
Key Use Cases
Emergency Mustering
During an evacuation, knowing exactly who is on-site is critical. XPressEntry devices serve as mobile muster stations, allowing safety officers to account for every individual by scanning credentials at assembly points. Results feed back into Protege GX in real time.
Remote and Temporary Sites
Construction projects, pop-up facilities, and remote infrastructure sites often lack the cabling and power needed for fixed readers. XPressEntry provides the same level of access verification using battery-powered handheld devices.
Events and Visitor Management
For conferences, open days, or facility tours, security teams can use XPressEntry to verify visitor credentials at entrances without permanent reader installations. Temporary access rights configured in Protege GX are enforced seamlessly on the handheld.
Hazardous Area Compliance
In oil and gas, mining, or chemical facilities, tracking who has entered a hazardous zone is a regulatory requirement. The integration ensures that entry and exit events are logged and available for compliance reporting.
A Unified Security Picture
The real power of this integration is that handheld verification events appear alongside fixed reader events in the Protege GX event log. Security teams get a complete picture of who is where, regardless of whether access was granted by a wall-mounted reader or a handheld device at a remote checkpoint.
