The Challenge
In the heart of Vaughan, Ontario, a new vision for urban living emerged. Abeja District, developed by Cortel Group, represented an ambitious residential development aiming to create more than towers — a vertical village. With three high-rise buildings of approximately 30 stories each, 800+ residential suites, and 2,000+ residents, the project required a forward-thinking security and access control system to manage complex needs across countless entry points.
The Automated Group (TAG), a Toronto-based integrator, faced a monumental task: design a unified security system managing complex access across three towers, numerous amenities, and elevators. The system needed to be powerful enough for dense, multi-tower environments while remaining simple for hundreds of residents and staff.
The Solution
TAG partnered with ICT to implement Protege GX as the central platform. This unified system provides:
- Centralized control across all three towers from a single interface
- Real-time visibility for concierge staff via the GX software
- Integrated elevator and common area controls using output modules for elevator control and input modules monitoring common area doors
- Sophisticated floor-access restrictions based on resident credentials — residents present credentials that unlock doors, call elevators, and grant access only to their specific floors
- Proactive property management with all activity reporting to concierge staff in real-time
The integration allows residents to seamlessly move through the development while maintaining strict security boundaries between towers and floors.
Key Outcomes
- 800+ suites across three towers managed from a single platform
- Seamless elevator integration with floor-specific access control
- Unified concierge dashboard providing real-time visibility across the entire development
- Simplified resident experience — one credential for all doors, elevators, and amenities
- Scalable architecture proven across dense, multi-tower environments
What They Said
“It’s all on one platform… the integration is smooth and the software is very easy to use. We get a lot of positive feedback.”
— David Marchione, Chief Implementation Officer, The Automated Group
“In our history with ICT, we’ve always had successful outcomes solving unique scenarios.”
— Michael D’Angelo, Chief Revenue Officer, The Automated Group
“ICT has been reliable from the start. We’ve got buildings installed 20–25 years ago that still run on the same hardware with very few issues.”
