The Challenge
Red Stag Timber operates the largest structural timber sawmill in the southern hemisphere, spanning 75 hectares in Rotorua, New Zealand, with over 300 staff and 1,500 contractors. Their legacy security system struggled to add users and expand alarms, lacked reliable and flexible data reporting, and required costly maintenance. The hardware was difficult to configure, and expansion was limited — a critical issue for a live industrial site that could not afford operational stoppages.
The Solution
Working with integration partner Nutech Security, Red Stag deployed Protege GX across the entire site in a phased two-part installation: first replacing access control door-by-door, then upgrading the alarm monitoring system. The solution included:
- tSec readers and keypads rated for indoor and outdoor industrial environments
- Custom floor plans based on aerial photography for intuitive navigation
- Protege Mobile App for remote access and management
- Hanwha Vision camera integration via Wisenet Wave Service for video verification
- Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) for vehicle credential management
- Pertronic fire panel integration for real-time smoke detector alerts with location visualization
- Programmable functions allowing guards to unlock emergency exits with a single click
The entire implementation was completed in under two years without any operational stoppages.
