Emergency Egress

The last thing you want in an emergency situation is the access control system preventing a smooth evacuation of an occupied building.

How it works

One of Protege's many built in Programmable Functions is an Emergency Egress function.

An Emergency Egress function is typically triggered by the building fire alarm system. The fire alarm system is connected to the Protege system via any programmed input.

Once activated, the function will immediately unlock all doors that are defined in the egress door group, and prevent anything from locking them again.

When the fire alarm is reset, the Emergency Egress function secures all doors in the group.

The Emergency Egress function is not intended to replace the emergency door release devices located at individual doors on the egress path, rather it is designed to aide in an expeditious evacuation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is emergency egress?

Emergency Egress is a built-in Programmable Function in ICT's Protege systems that ensures the access control system supports a smooth evacuation during an emergency. It immediately unlocks all doors defined in the egress door group and prevents them from being locked again until the alarm is reset.

How does emergency egress work?

Emergency Egress is typically triggered by the building fire alarm system, which is connected to the Protege system via any programmed input. Once activated, the function unlocks every door in the egress door group and holds them unlocked until the fire alarm is reset, at which point all doors in the group are re-secured.

Does emergency egress replace physical emergency door release hardware?

No. Emergency Egress is designed to aid an expeditious evacuation, not to replace the emergency door release devices located at individual doors on the egress path. Both layers work together: the physical release hardware satisfies code requirements for each door, while Emergency Egress unlocks groups of doors at the access control level.

Which ICT products support emergency egress?

Emergency Egress is a programmable function in both Protege GX and Protege WX. It uses an existing system input wired to the building fire alarm and any doors configured in the egress group.
